LO2 Task 3 script and vlog

Hello its Hannah again. I'm here today to talk about target audience! The movie Fantastic Four is a action. So it appeals to men. This is stereotypical of men to enjoy action movies more than women. This links with Rick Altman's theory (1999) different genres offer different pleasures.
The action genre gives escapism to the audience. Men like to be in action. In this clip of action you can see the antagonist  Victor Von Doom terrorising the street  So this is why the target audience is male. Also because the film was originally a comic strip. Traditionally mostly men read comics. So the men that have read the comics will want to see the movie to compare. Another reason that men will like this movie is because of Richard Dyers (1975) theory of star persona. In the movie is the actress Jessica Alba and she is seen as an ideal partner and men are attracted to her. Also the men are seen as the role models because they save New York.
Now on to age, the target age range is 9-15 this is because the movie doesn't have a complex narrative. So its easy for younger people to understand. Also it is aimed to families that everyone will enjoy it. Younger children like action and light humour.
Lets move on to spending power. Now you're probably wondering what it is. Well spending power is the money people have free to spend that doesn't effect their standard of living. There are 6 categorise that people fall into, A,B,C1,C2,D and E. The ABC1 group have more disposable income, so media marketers try and aim at this target audience. This is because they are more likely to be able to afford the movie and all the merchandise that goes along with it. So Fantastic 4 is aimed at A,B,C1 and C2. This is because they want family's that have enough money to be able to afford to film and merchandise. Because the film is high budget, it needs to bring back a lot of profit.
The NRS have set up a demographic of peoples life style ranging from 'affluent achievers' to 'unclassifiable'. So Fantastic 4 falls under the demographics of  C- settled suburban's, E- urban ventures, F- county life and I- hard pressed family's. This is because it is an action family film with a narrative that appeals to adults and children. The movie is suitable for everyone so its a family friendly film. Also because a family can watch it together it means the children will want the merchandise and the parents are more likely to buy it because they enjoy the film.

Felix is 12. He enjoys playing with his friends outside. He loves playing with his toy guns and action figures. He has a passion for everything Marvel. He one day hopes to own all the Marvel merchandise. His room is filled with Marvel movies and merchandise. His life ambitions are to meet Stan Lee and one day become a superhero and save the world. His family life is good. He has a little brother and he is trying to get him to become Marvel obsessed as well. Also his mum encourages his love of the movies by buying him the merchandise. Felix and his friends play Marvel games. They pretend to be the characters and use their superpowers to save others.

Its a way we can categorise certain elements of audinece. Age, gender, disposable income, lifestyle, location, education, ethnicity and accessibility. These are the demographic categories.

Audience Theory

John Hartley (1987) and Ian Ang (1991) suggests that producers create invisible fictions or imaginary entitles before creating a media product. This is the starting point for creating the profile and images that you will use in it.
